Weekly Gratitude #12

  • This past week was packed with adventures and lessons. I'm grateful for so many things this week; it's hard to get my thoughts in order!
  • Bikes. I'm grateful for the bike adventures Justin and I had on Friday and Sunday. Friday we rode a trail off of Loop 410 and Sunday we participated in Siclovia. I got a free headlight and taillight for my bike so now I'm "street legal"! On Sunday we rode for about four hours and boy oh boy was I sore after that!
  • Firefighters. Early Saturday morning a fire started in an historic building next to my office building downtown. The fire quickly spread and busted out windows in my office building, spreading into the 21-story tower. It was a four alarm fire and over forty units responded to the scene and fought the flames for many many hours. My office is on the 8th floor of the building; the floor right below was completely destroyed. In sum, I'm grateful for the bravery of the firefighters who risked their lives putting out the fires, I'm grateful that nobody was injured and I'm very fortunate that my office only had smoke damage.
  • Austin adventures. We headed up to Austin on Saturday morning to help Justin's sister, Jessica, celebrate her 23rd birthday! While Justin watched the Aggie game with friends, I was able to visit my grandfather. The visit was amazing and I am forever grateful for the relationship I have with my grandfather and his ever-improving health; he is so determined to get better and his strength is inspiring. Other adventures in Austin included Roller Derby and going out in style on 6th street!  Sunday morning, we woke up early to get breakfast tacos at Tochy's with Scott (our wonderful host)....the atmosphere was very calming and the company was great. Overall a good time :)
  • Sunday funday. I'm grateful for the wonderful Sunday afternoon Justin and I spent riding our bikes around town, indulging in delicious food and music at Tycoon Flats, and finishing the night off by watching the first Star Wars movie. The movie can be found  in two spots on my list of 101 in 1001: #12 - watch all of the Star Wars movies and #7 - See all of the "100 Movies To See Before You Die"

  • The little things. Coda always makes me smile. I've been working from home all week because of the fire so I've been able to get a glimpse into her day to day routine... she sleeps all.day.long! I always imagined she watched the birds and squirrels and played with things around the house. WRONG. She definitely gets her 18 hours of sleep a day. The last thing I want to do when I see her lounging around is work...such a challenge :)
